Who We Are PiPi Tea is a rapidly growing premium organic tea brand sourcing whole-leaf tea from Yunnan’s Pu’er Mountains. We sell direct-to-consumer in the US market and are on a trajectory to become an 8-figure brand in our first year. Our growth is driven by data-driven creative testing, subscription-first economics, and a relentless focus on operational excellence. We’re building the internal tools and systems to match our ambitions, and that’s where you come in.

The Role We’re looking for a full-stack engineer with a strong backend focus to join us initially on a 90-day contract. If the project is successful (and we expect it to be), this converts to a full-time role as a founding engineer on our internal tools team. You’ll be the kind of engineer who sees the current state, understands the ideal end state, and can build in that direction, without needing every piece tasked out. We move fast, and we need someone who thrives in that environment.

The First Project: Creative Intelligence System Your initial 90-day project will be building our Creative Intelligence System, an internal platform that acts as the “brain” behind our ad creative testing operation. This system will:

• Ingest ad performance data from the Facebook/Meta API and creative test tracking data from Airtable
• Stitch this data together with our internal database to create a unified view of creative performance
• Integrate with Claude (Anthropic’s API) to analyse patterns, surface insights, and identify what’s working and why
• Output recommended next tests and creative angles based on the AI-driven analysis

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services that pull data from the Facebook/Meta API and Airtable API
• Architect and manage a database layer (internal DB + Airtable integration) for creative performance data
• Integrate the Anthropic/Claude API to power AI-driven insights and test recommendations
• Build a clean, functional frontend for the team to interact with insights and outputs
• Deploy and manage infrastructure on AWS
• Work directly with the founder and creative team to iterate quickly based on feedback
• Document systems, write clean code, and build with scale in mind

• Have 3+ years of professional experience as a full-stack or backend engineer
• Are proficient in a modern tech stack: React, Node.js, TypeScript, or similar (no PHP)
• Have experience building API integrations (REST, webhooks) and working with third-party APIs
• Are comfortable with AWS infrastructure (EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, or equivalent)
• Have experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
• Are a self-starter who can take a problem, architect a solution, and ship it without hand-holding
• Have excellent written and spoken English so you can collaborate effectively with a distributed team
• Are comfortable working remotely and asynchronously across time zones

Bonus Points

• Experience with AI/LLM API integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
• Startup or e-commerce/DTC experience
• Familiarity with Facebook/Meta Marketing API
• Experience with Airtable as a data layer
• DevOps/infrastructure chops (CI/CD, containerisation, monitoring)

Working Hours This is a fully remote position. You will be required to coordinate with the team for at least 4 hours per day during AEST business hours. Outside of that overlap, you can structure your day as you prefer.

Contract Structure

• Initial 90-day project-based contract
• Successful completion converts to a full-time role
• You’ll be a founding member of our engineering team with significant ownership over the systems you build
