Legal Counsel (Fintech)

TL;DR

Legal Counsel (Fintech): Advising global teams on financial services, payments, data privacy, and corporate governance for a stablecoin-native infrastructure company, with an accent on drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements and managing legal risks. Focus on staying current with cryptocurrency and fintech legal frameworks, supporting new product launches, and assisting with M&A and funding activities.

Location: Hybrid working, must be based out of our Cape Town or Maltese office

hirify.global is building stablecoin-native infrastructure to accelerate global money movement for businesses, backed by strategic investors like Visa.

What you will do

• Advise global teams on financial services, payments, outsourcing, data privacy, intellectual property, employment law, financial crime, disputes, litigation, and corporate governance.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements, including service contracts, outsourcing agreements, and SaaS agreements.
• Review marketing materials to ensure accuracy, legal and regulatory compliance, and intellectual property protection.
• Assess and advise on legal risks, propose innovative solutions, and constructively challenge business decisions.
• Support hirify.global’s global BAU activities and legal operations, assisting with M&A and funding activities.
• Conduct legal research and stay updated on laws and regulations concerning cryptocurrency and payments, anticipating risks.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer in an in-house legal team, top law firm, or government agency.
• Familiarity with UK and/or EU payments and financial services laws and regulations (e.g., Payment Services Regulation, PSD2).
• Extensive experience in negotiating and drafting agreements with customers, partners, and suppliers.
• Experience in intra-group matters, corporate law, and ideally corporate governance, employment matters, disputes, and litigation.
• Highly collaborative, inquisitive, solutions-oriented, with prior experience advising product development at fast-moving technology companies.
• Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills, able to simplify legal concepts.
• Good understanding of cryptocurrency and fintech legal frameworks, or a strong interest in learning.
• Must be based out of our Cape Town or Maltese office.
