Location: Hybrid (Redmond, United States). Employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) of that location.

Salary: USD $188,000–$304,200 per year (for San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area; general U.S. range for this role is USD $119,800–$274,800).

What you will do

• Develop algorithms, design model architectures, and conduct experiments for advanced foundation models.
• Innovate datasets and data pipelines, champion measurement and evaluation.
• Improve training and deployment efficiency for large-scale AI systems.
• Collaborate closely with infrastructure, data engineering, pre-training, and post-training teams.
• Advance the AI frontier responsibly, adhering to ethical principles.
• Iterate over ideas, prototypes, and products with a rigorous data-driven approach.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline with 4+ years of technical engineering experience, OR Master’s Degree with 8+ years, OR Bachelor’s with 12+ years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in coding languages including Python, C, C++, C#, Java, or JavaScript.
• Experience with large-scale AI systems, distributed architectures, multimodal or conversational models; proficiency with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and cloud/HPC environments (e.g., Azure).
• Expertise in data engineering for foundation models, including dataset design, curation, annotation pipelines, quality evaluation, bias detection, and understanding of privacy, compliance, and Responsible AI principles.
• Background in LLM interaction and deployment, including practical work in prompt engineering, safety-aligned evaluation, and integration of conversational AI into production systems.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and collaborate cross-functionally.
• Work authorization for the United States is required.
