Focus on designing and building a scalable foundation, leveraging Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React, and applying AI/ML advancements to simplify complex financial domains.

Location: Hybrid, with expected office attendance 2-3 days per week in Denver, San Francisco, or New York City for those based nearby. Remote work also possible from most US locations, but tied to specific salary bands.

Salary: $215,000/yr–$295,000/yr

What you will do

• Function as a Technical Lead across multiple Payroll Services teams.
• Design, build, and test compliant payroll foundations for millions of people.
• Scale large Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React applications.
• Collaborate on complex and ambiguous problems with cross-functional teams.
• Mentor and grow fellow engineers.
• Drive the product development process from concept to launch, making payroll and compliance simple.
• Continuously stay up-to-date with advancements in AI and Machine Learning, applying this knowledge to projects.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, data modeling, and system design.
• Experience working across 3+ teams, influencing product and team direction.
• Experience with platform products and engineering, designing, building, and supporting large-scale production systems.
• Aptitude in bringing clarity and simplicity to complex problems, communicating technical complexity and facilitating informed tradeoffs.
• Experience in complex highly regulated domains (HR, Payroll, Taxes, or Compliance).
• Experience using AI tools to build, test, and iterate on products quickly and evaluating AI-driven outputs.
• Commitment to staying current on emerging backend technologies and AI frameworks and patterns.
