What you will do
- Provide technical leadership for web development on the Zable website, setting React and TypeScript frontend direction.
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to define and deliver web projects.
- Design and review frontend architecture, ensuring codebase health and scalability.
- Guide testing and quality approaches for web journeys, setting standards for unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Lead efforts to improve performance, reliability, and accessibility using metrics and tools.
- Identify technical debt and platform risks, balancing new features with architecture improvements.
- Mentor and support engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and pairing.
- Collaborate with other technical leads to align on shared standards and cross-team initiatives.
Requirements
- Deep experience building and scaling React applications in production with strong TypeScript knowledge and modern web engineering practices.
- Experience breaking down business requirements into deliverable tasks, estimating complexity, and planning work across a team.
- Ability to identify technical challenges in designs and propose alternative approaches with clear trade-offs.
- Passion for building high-performing teams, improving team flow, and encouraging accountability.
- Experience mentoring and supporting other engineers for their personal and professional growth.
- Track record of leading automated testing and quality practices, taking a pragmatic approach to improvements.
- Ability to identify and assess technical debt in web systems, advocating for code and architecture improvements.
- Awareness of accessibility needs for web users and familiarity with approaches and tools to meet guidelines.
Nice to have
- Experience leading web teams that have built or worked on products which scaled to very large user bases.
- Experience with frameworks used for larger web applications, for example NextJS.
- Experience in scaling React-based platforms across multiple teams, with shared components, tooling and standards.
