Principal Software Engineer I (Elasticsearch Performance)

Principal Software Engineer I (hirify.globalsearch Performance): Enhancing processes and automated tooling for benchmarking hirify.globalsearch ingest and search workloads at scale in the cloud, and identifying performance regressions with an accent on designing and building tooling, maintaining an open-source Python-based benchmarking tool (Rally), and defining methodologies for performance benchmarking. Focus on investigating and resolving performance escalations, addressing disparate use cases, and operating across multiple cloud service providers.

Location: Remote (United States and Canada). Must comply with US federal employment laws. Not available for nationals or residents of Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, the Crimea Region of Ukraine, the Donetsk People’s Republic (“DNR”), and the Luhansk People’s Republic (“LNR”).

What you will do

• Design and build automated tooling and processes for large-scale hirify.globalsearch performance benchmarking.
• Maintain the open-source Python-based benchmarking tool, Rally, and establish best practices.
• Define methodologies and guidelines for performance benchmarking for development teams.
• Interpret benchmarking results and develop comprehensive reporting.
• Investigate and resolve performance escalations and capacity planning issues.
• Devise solutions for benchmarking diverse use cases and workloads.

Requirements

• Expert-level software development experience with Python and Linux shell is required.
• Familiarity with Linux system-level performance measurement and tooling (CPU, memory, disk I/O).
• Prior experience in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of performance issues in complex distributed architectures.
• Experience with cloud orchestration using Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with cloud architectures and operating across multiple cloud service providers.
• Ability to multitask, manage time, and collaborate globally across time zones.

Nice to have

• Prior experience with large, distributed search engines and query tuning.
• Familiarity with hirify.globalsearch Query API and building Kibana dashboards.
