Senior Backend Engineer (Legal Tech)

Location: Toronto, Canada (hybrid)

Salary: CAD 152,660–214,475 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Own the full project lifecycle from conception and design through deployment and iteration.
• Architect and develop software interfaces, integration frameworks, and technical solutions.
• Design and implement dependable integrations with third-party vendors.
• Collaborate with backend engineers, product owners, designers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical designs.
• Document interface requirements and optimize application performance and responsiveness.
• Contribute programming expertise across multiple languages and frameworks while mentoring fellow engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant experience developing applications and services.
• Extensive experience with third-party integrations and integration framework design.
• Strong RESTful API design and development skills.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and software development fundamentals.
• Familiarity with SOAP, REST, GraphQL, and server-side languages such as SQL.
• Ability to communicate technical ideas and issues clearly and translate them into actionable solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience with React and TypeScript.
• Experience in AI, legal technology, or social impact projects.
