What you will do

• Design and implement AI governance frameworks, policies, and standards for responsible AI use, aligned with HL’s values, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Develop AI impact assessment methodologies and maintain an AI system inventory based on risk levels and use cases.
• Embed ethical principles for AI development and deployment, addressing fairness, transparency, accountability, and human rights considerations.
• Champion responsible AI practices across technical and business teams through education, guidance, and consultation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing advice and thought-leadership on AI ethics, risk, and governance.
• Monitor evolving AI regulations and standards, assessing implications, and ensuring compliant frameworks and practices.

Requirements

• Experienced in highly regulated sectors such as financial services, healthcare, or government.
• In-depth knowledge of AI and data governance frameworks (GDPR, EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO standards) and a track record of developing and embedding best practice oversight.
• Strategic, analytical, and adaptable with a problem-solving mindset.
• Ability to navigate complex, ethical dilemmas, coupled with strong technical understanding, to provide principled guidance.
• Exceptional communicator, able to translate complex technical and ethical issues for everyone.
• Adept at building strong relationships and influencing, engaging, and gaining buy-in across all levels of the organisation, including from senior stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Hold certifications in privacy, risk management, or AI ethics (e.g. CIPP, CIPM, CRISC, CISM) or bring the equivalent in hands-on experience.
• Experienced in working with software development and infrastructure teams, with a knowledge of Agile methodologies.
