Data Engineer (Energy Markets)

TL;DR

Data Engineer (Energy Markets): Building and optimizing high-load data applications, databases, APIs, and pipelines for critical forecasting, trading, and risk processes with an accent on architectural improvements for global scalability and robustness. Focus on ensuring system reliability, data integrity, and cross-team best practices within the energy sector.

Location: Hybrid, requiring 2-3 days a week in the London office, UK. Open to travelling to Octopus offices across Europe and the US.

What you will do

• Maintain and develop critical data applications, implementing architectural improvements for global scalability.
• Grow self-service application monitoring tools and alerts for debugging and root cause analysis.
• Support Energy Markets teams in designing and building operational and reporting pipelines and dashboards.
• Set up and maintain processes for capturing, preparing, and loading new data into the data lake.
• Work with international teams to standardise code and share best practices.
• Take ownership of data platform improvements to enhance capabilities and stability.

Requirements

• Strong aptitude with SQL, Python, and Airflow.
• Experience building efficient, scalable databases and APIs (e.g., Django, FastAPI) is a huge plus.
• Experience in Kubernetes, Docker, Spark, and related monitoring tools (e.g., DataDog, Grafana, Prometheus) for DataOps is a huge plus.
• Ability to shape needs into requirements and design scalable solutions.
• Ability to quickly understand new domain areas and visualise data effectively.
• Work format: Hybrid, requiring 2-3 days a week in the London office, UK.
• English: B2 required.

• Experience with dbt for pipeline modelling.
