TL;DR

Principal Applied Scientist (ML/AI): Building large-scale ML models for advertisement predictive signals with an accent on production deployment and revenue impact. Focus on optimizing LLM inference pipelines, applying advanced fine-tuning techniques (SFT, LoRA, RLHF), and developing robust evaluation frameworks for model quality.

Location: Must be based in Redmond, WA or within a 50-mile commute of a Microsoft office in the US (expected to work from the office at least four days per week)

Salary: $139,900 – $274,800

What you will do

• Build and deploy large-scale machine learning models for text and numerical data in production.
• Run A/B testing and analyze the impact of model metrics and failure modes on business KPIs.
• Establish scalable pipelines for data processing, analytics, model training, and validation.
• Implement automated system health monitoring using agentic workflows.
• Research and implement state-of-the-art modeling approaches to improve the modeling stack.
• Mentor less experienced scientists on the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, or related field with 3-6+ years of relevant experience.
• Must be able to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check.
• Deep expertise in designing, training, and optimizing transformer-based models and LLMs for production.
• Proven ability to build high-performance LLM inference pipelines and apply advanced fine-tuning (SFT, LoRA, RLHF).
• Strong expertise in developing evaluation frameworks for ML/LLM systems (benchmarking, hallucination and bias monitoring).

Nice to have

• Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) with 6-9+ years of related experience.
• 5+ years of customer-facing, project-delivery, or consulting experience.
