Member of Technical Staff – Data Engineering Manager (AI)

Data Engineering Manager (AI): Building and optimizing mission-critical data pipelines for Microsoft Copilot AI systems with an accent on data ingestion, processing, and publishing for model fine-tuning. Focus on architecting scalable solutions, solving complex big data challenges, and driving engineering and operational excellence for the data platform.

Location: Redmond, United States. Employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.).

Salary: USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year (general U.S. range); USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area).

What you will do

• Build scalable data pipelines for sourcing, transforming, and publishing data assets for AI use cases.
• Collaborate with Platform, infrastructure, application engineers, and AI Researchers to build next-generation data platform products and services.
• Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code.
• Manage a small team of 4-5 senior data engineers, including talent management.
• Own engineering and operational excellence for the data platform, including PR reviews and code quality.
• Find paths to get things done despite roadblocks to deliver work quickly and iteratively.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work; OR Master’s Degree AND 4+ years experience; OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years technical engineering experience building data processing applications (batch and streaming) with coding in languages including Python, Java, Spark, SQL.
• Experience working with Apache Hadoop eco system, Kafka, and NoSQL.
• 3+ years experience with data governance, data compliance, and/or data security.
• 2+ years’ experience building scalable services on public cloud infrastructure like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• 2+ years’ experience building distributed systems at scale with extensive systems knowledge.
• English: B2 required.
