Location: Mountain View, United States. Required to be local to the San Francisco area and in office 3 days a week. From January 26, 2026, employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles.

Salary: USD $220,800 – $331,200 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area)

What you will do

• Build and lead a team of backend and machine learning engineers, including project planning and prioritization.
• Guide teams in identifying dependencies and developing design documents for products or platforms.
• Make hands-on contributions to the codebase and infrastructure.
• Lead architecture and design efforts, creating proposals and ensuring solutions meet requirements.
• Ship AI-powered experiences that will shape future human-AI interactions.
• Drive implementation of features and systems, breaking down goals into milestones and coordinating across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
• 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• 3+ years of people manager experience.

Nice to have

• 10+ years technical engineering experience (Bachelor's) or 8+ years (Master's).
• Proven experience building large-scale distributed systems and optimizing workloads.
• Passion for learning new AI technologies and industry trends.
• Experience building large-scale ranking algorithms and recommender systems.
