Location: Mountain View, United States. Required to be local to the San Francisco area and in office 3 days a week. Starting January 26, 2026, employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.).

Salary: USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area for IC5 level).

What you will do

• Design and build large-scale Copilot memory and personalization systems leveraging search, embeddings, retrieval, ranking, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
• Apply subject-matter expertise in cross-product features and collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to drive project plans, release plans, and deliverables.
• Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers and monitoring system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
• Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends and technical solutions to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance.
• Navigate ambiguity and clear roadblocks to deliver solutions quickly and iteratively.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Required to be local to the San Francisco area and work in office 3 days a week.
• Ability to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if living within 50 miles (U.S.).

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science AND 6+ years.
• Experience building and deploying machine learning or large language model (LLM) applications at scale.
• Experience designing and implementing large-scale embedding, retrieval, and ranking systems.
