TL;DR
Software Engineer III Team Lead (AI) (Java/backend): Building and delivering cloud-native utility software with an accent on technical leadership, AI-assisted development, and maintainable backend architecture. Focus on designing RESTful and microservices-based systems, validating AI-generated code, improving automated testing, and mentoring engineers in an Agile environment.
Location: Remote within Canada, with flexible working hours across North America. Hub offices are located in Charlottetown and Atlanta.

What you will do
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, including one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and career development.
- Design, implement, review, and maintain clean, testable Java backend code and technical architecture.
- Use AI tools such as Claude Code across design, development, testing, and release while validating their output.
- Drive code quality, automated testing, engineering standards, process improvements, and tooling improvements.
- Troubleshoot technical issues across development and production and assist with support-related issues.
- Collaborate in an Agile Scrum team and communicate technical trade-offs, progress, and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of software development experience focused on Java backend web applications, plus previous leadership or mentorship experience.
- Strong knowledge of Java, RESTful APIs, microservices, asynchronous processing, relational databases, and SQL.
- Experience with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, cloud platforms, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
- Expertise in software design patterns, object-oriented programming, clean code, scalability, performance, and security.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills in a fast-paced Agile environment.
