Staff / Principal Backend Engineer (Python)

TL;DR

Staff / Principal Backend Engineer (Python): Building and optimizing high-load backend services for an accounting practice management platform with an accent on API design, database performance, and microservices architecture. Focus on implementing new features, owning service deployments, and mentoring other developers.

Location: Remote. Must be based in UT, FL, OH, TX, TN, OR, NH, MI, IL, AR, CA, or GA (United States).

What you will do

• Define and validate new features and enhancements with product managers, UX designers, engineers, and customers.
• Design effective REST API endpoints with frontend engineers and document service contracts.
• Implement microservice endpoints using Python (asyncio), Java (Vert.x), PostgreSQL, Redis, and RabbitMQ.
• Write unit tests, participate in code reviews, and ensure quality and best practices.
• Own service builds and deployments to staging and production environments using Docker, Github, and Kubernetes.
• Mentor other developers on your team and share gained knowledge through trainings.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of web development experience in Python (Java and/or Kotlin also preferred).
• Proficiency in SQL database design and interaction.
• Knowledge of RESTful API principles and conventions.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to work well on a highly collaborative team.
• Ability to communicate effectively to promote ideas and show mutual respect.

Nice to have

• An interest in AI development and following the latest updates.
• Experience working with microservices.
• Experience with leveraging 3rd party APIs and integrations.
