Software Engineer (Media)

Location: Palo Alto, California, or Seattle, Washington, United States

Salary: $180,000–$440,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Build the next generation of large-scale video services.
• Contribute to and rebuild core media processing and distribution pipelines using Rust, C++, or Go.
• Improve end-to-end media quality and performance across video playback, live streaming, Spaces, audio/video calls, and related products.
• Optimize media systems at scale, focusing on latency, visual quality, and platform performance.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience.
• Strong proficiency in high-performance C++ or Go.
• In-depth knowledge of WebRTC, LL-HLS, or video transcoding pipelines.
• Experience building and operating scalable, resilient distributed systems.
• Strong focus on media quality, performance, and product experience.
• Ability to work from Palo Alto, California, or Seattle, Washington.

Nice to have

• Experience with Go, C++, Rust, Java, or Scala.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, FoundationDB, ValKey, Envoy, or S3.
• Experience with H.264, H.265, AV1, MP4, CMAF, VMAF, RTP, RTMP, LL-HLS, HDR, or DRM.
