Principal Engineer, EC2 (Cloud Infrastructure)

Location: Berlin, Germany; full-time on-site work in the Berlin office is required every day. Remote work and relocation to another hirify.global office are not possible.

What you will do

• Lead the design and architecture of new EC2 instance platforms and capabilities.
• Develop virtualization features covering CPU scheduling, memory management, device emulation, and PCIe subsystem integration.
• Drive security initiatives that improve the integrity and resilience of hypervisors and kernels.
• Create prototypes, design documents, and technical roadmaps for cross-organizational engineering efforts.
• Participate in development, debugging, release management, and solutions to operational bottlenecks.
• Provide technical guidance across multiple teams and mentor engineers through architecture reviews, design proposals, and coding support.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in computer science or an equivalent qualification.
• Experience developing an operating system kernel or production hypervisor.
• Experience with networking, multithreaded applications, interprocess communication, and complex software development.
• Proficiency in at least one CPU architecture, such as x86 or ARM.
• Experience optimizing short-term execution while planning long-term technical capabilities.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills and availability for daily on-site work in Berlin are required.

Nice to have

• Experience influencing groups outside the engineer’s organization from an architecture perspective.
• Experience creating architectural vision and improving kernel or hypervisor security.
• Experience resolving complex software-hardware integration issues, including PCIe internals.
• Proficiency in both x86 and ARM CPU architectures.
