Software Engineer (Applied AI)

Location: Remote for candidates based in the United States or Canada; 20–40% travel to work on-site with customers and partners.

Salary: $120,000–$275,000 USD for candidates elsewhere in the United States; $140,000–$325,000 USD for candidates in California, New York, and Washington States; $175,000–$385,000 CAD for candidates in Canada.

What you will do

• Translate ambiguous enterprise business problems into agentic workflows with clear success criteria and evaluation methods.
• Design, build, and deploy LLM-powered agents that plan and act across tools, APIs, and sensitive enterprise data.
• Build and ship features for North, Cohere’s AI workspace platform, across the full product lifecycle.
• Own use cases end-to-end and contribute to shared frameworks and delivery patterns.
• Collaborate directly with customers and partners, including on-site travel of up to 20–40%.
• Improve engineering quality and create alignment in ambiguous situations.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building and deploying production-grade software in Python.
• Experience with performant RAG and agentic applications, including multi-step planning and execution patterns such as ReAct or Plan-and-Execute.
• Deep familiarity with frontier models, vector databases, and orchestration frameworks.
• Ability to build evaluation frameworks measuring agent accuracy, safety, and latency.
• Experience leading technical discussions with enterprise stakeholders and translating business needs into technical specifications.
• Experience owning technical use cases end-to-end in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.

Nice to have

• Experience setting architectural standards for AI and agentic systems across distributed teams.
• Ability to work across unfamiliar technical areas, including frontend.
• Exposure to finance, healthcare, or telecommunications environments.
• Experience with enterprise security, compliance, or auditability requirements for AI systems.
