Senior Software Engineer - Data Platform (AI)

Location: Remote, with the role associated with Torrance, California. Due to U.S. export-control requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations without sponsorship for an export license.

Salary: $170,000–$200,000 per year, base salary only.

What you will do

• Build and operate post-processing pipelines that align, resample, and calibrate multi-sensor maritime data.
• Develop backfill and reprocessing frameworks for filters, synchronization, label corrections, and metadata enrichment across historical data.
• Establish data lineage and versioning to support reproducible experiments and reliable dataset evaluation.
• Build dataset discovery and access APIs and SDKs for querying data by time, region, modality, labels, and quality flags.
• Implement data-quality metrics, dashboards, alerts, and canary dataset builds.
• Optimize storage layouts for fast reads and parallel processing using columnar formats, compression, chunking, sharding, locality, and prefetching.

Requirements

• Senior-level software engineering experience with ownership of dataset-as-a-product or comparable data-platform systems.
• Proficiency in Python and data tooling such as PyArrow, Polars, Pandas, NumPy, or SciPy.
• Experience with at least one service language: Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Experience designing data splitting and sampling strategies to prevent leakage and ensure model generalization.
• Hands-on experience with labeling workflows, ontologies, consensus, quality assurance, and label-store integrations.
• Experience with sensor data such as audio, sonar, video, or telemetry, including time synchronization and geospatial context.

Nice to have

• Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow or Prefect.
• Experience with metadata and lineage tools such as MLflow or W&B.
• Experience supporting multiple model families with curated corpora, strong lineage, and documentation.
