Principal Machine Learning Engineer (AI/Safety): Defining the long-term technical strategy and architectural blueprint for proactive moderation systems with an accent on high-velocity text filtering and multimodal Generative AI. Focus on designing scalable real-time inference services and leading the adoption of LLMs to mitigate critical platform harms.

Location: Hybrid (Must be based in San Mateo, CA; onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)

What you will do

• Define and lead the multi-year technical vision and architectural strategy for ML solutions in Content and Communication Safety.
• Serve as the highest technical authority for the Content Safety ML domain, guiding the development of foundational models and data pipelines.
• Drive cross-organizational alignment for ML infrastructure and platform initiatives that benefit all of Trust & Safety.
• Oversee the deployment of advanced NLP, self-supervised learning, and multimodal LLMs to proactively intervene in abuse.
• Partner with executive leadership in Product, Data Science, and Policy to prioritize the ML roadmap.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing and operating large-scale ML systems in production.
• 5+ years of experience in technical leadership, managing Senior/Principal engineers or Engineering Managers.
• Deep expertise in LLMs, transfer learning, and foundation models applied to text or multimodal data.
• Proven ability to architect real-time ML inference services handling millions of requests per second.
• Must be based in or have valid authorization to work in the United States.
