Sr. Manager, Engineering - Search (AI)

What you will do

• Lead a team of software engineers building and operating next-generation cloud-native Search services.
• Drive Vector Search, Keyword Search, and Hybrid Search capabilities to improve relevance, latency, and cost efficiency.
• Partner with product and research teams on Search Quality roadmaps, ranking models, and evaluation frameworks.
• Manage large-scale, highly available cloud services and define long-term Search engineering strategy.
• Mentor engineers and emerging leaders through coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.
• Collaborate across Databricks to make Search a core platform for AI and data applications.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in search, database systems, or AI/ML infrastructure.
• Track record of building and scaling highly available cloud services.
• Experience building, growing, and managing high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience defining and meeting SLOs for distributed, production-grade systems.
• Understanding of search and indexing systems such as Elasticsearch, Lucene, or vector databases.
• BS in Computer Science; a Master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
