Staff Software Engineer, AI/ML

Location: New York, NY, or remote within the US via hub cities including San Francisco/Bay Area, Seattle, Boston, Washington, DC, and Chicago. New York-based employees work onsite three days per week; employees in other listed hub cities attend monthly Work Together Days.

Base salary: $220,000–$300,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy AI-powered healthcare solutions using foundation models, RAG, multi-call prompting, and agent frameworks.
• Turn healthcare data into actionable insights and intelligent workflows for members and providers.
• Develop scalable ML pipelines and platform components for experimentation, fine-tuning, training, evaluation, and production deployment.
• Prototype and productionize AI features for personalization, care routing, decision support, and summarization.
• Lead architecture discussions and technical decisions across AI/ML systems, while mentoring engineers and data scientists.
• Evaluate emerging LLM and applied AI capabilities for integration into the platform.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience in backend development, platform architecture, and ML/AI platforms or products.
• Experience building AI applications with foundation models and orchestration techniques, or experience across the data science lifecycle.
• Experience integrating and deploying foundation models through OpenAI, Google Vertex AI, or similar platforms.
• Experience working with health-related datasets and understanding user behavior, care journeys, health profiles, and provider interactions.
• Fluency in Python plus backend or platform engineering experience in another language such as Go or Java.
• Experience with cloud-native systems, distributed systems, data preprocessing, feature engineering, model evaluation, and end-to-end ML deployment.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with LangChain, vector search, agents, or training models from scratch.
