Head of Mechanical Design, R&D Manager

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop mechanical design engineers and technical specialists.
• Set priorities, manage team performance, capacity, competencies, resources, budget, KPIs, risks, and dependencies.
• Provide technical direction across mechanical architecture, design reviews, verification, troubleshooting, documentation, and engineering decisions.
• Support products from concept and feasibility through development, industrialization, maintenance, and end of life.
• Strengthen design practices, technical governance, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with R&D, Product Management, Quality, Regulatory, Supply, and international stakeholders; support recruitment and broader R&D initiatives.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
• Solid professional experience in mechanical product development and across the product lifecycle.
• Experience leading engineers or technical specialists as a line manager, team leader, technical leader, or engineering manager.
• Experience in cross-functional R&D environments and collaboration across functions, teams, and geographies in an international organization.
• Experience in a regulated or quality-driven product development environment.
• Knowledge of several areas including mechanical system architecture, product design, injection moulding, plastic parts, die-casting, sheet metal, machined components, materials, tolerance analysis, GD&T, CAD, design reviews, DfM, DfA, reliability engineering, environmental testing, and supplier or tooling management.
• Strong technical leadership, people leadership, decision-making, analytical thinking, communication, collaboration, delegation, customer focus, resilience, and continuous improvement capabilities.
• Fluent written and spoken Swedish and English.

Nice to have

• Experience in medical devices, healthcare technology, telecommunications, embedded products, or another relevant technology sector.
