TL;DR

VFX Artist (Gamedev): Creating realistic and stylized visual effects for next-generation immersive experiences with an accent on fire, smoke, explosions, and debris. Focus on balancing aesthetic impact with technical performance using proprietary tools and particle systems.

Location: Must be based in or be able to relocate to Cambridge, UK (Full in-studio or Hybrid - minimum 3 days per week in studio)

What you will do

• Plan and deliver realistic and stylized VFX using the proprietary Cobra game engine and tools.
• Create high-quality effects such as fire, smoke, explosions, debris, and clouds using an in-house particle editor.
• Collaborate with Art, Design, animation, and programming teams to achieve next-gen visuals.
• Influence the development of internal technologies and VFX tools.
• Ensure all VFX are efficient, performant, and creatively impactful.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a VFX Artist with a strong professional portfolio.
• Deep understanding of VFX principles including gameplay, shape, timing, motion, contrast, color, and composition.
• Solid knowledge of real-time game engines and particle systems.
• Proficiency in Maya, Janga Suite, Photoshop, After Effects, Houdini, or equivalent industry software.
• Ability to balance aesthetic goals with memory and performance considerations.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working within a multidisciplinary team.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of game lighting and full-screen FX systems.
• Experience in the film industry working in real-time environments.
