Senior Staff Software Engineer (Android & IoT)

Location: Remote within the United States; travel required 2–4 times a year.

Base salary: $144,390–$220,834 per year.

What you will do

• Own the technical direction, architecture, standards, and release cadence for Ops Portal, the Device Configurator Application, and Unified Device Diagnostics.
• Write and review production code across Kotlin, Python, Node.js, React, serverless services, and Android and iOS applications.
• Architect real-time device communication and remote command-and-control services using AWS IoT Core, MQTT, Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, and Terraform.
• Lead AI-assisted diagnostics and the Ops AI assistant using AWS Bedrock, MCP tools, human-in-the-loop controls, and evaluations.
• Control fleet-change safety for provisioning, bulk updates, and AI device actions through staged rollouts and tested rollback procedures.
• Set security and observability standards, collaborate with shared Android platform teams, contribute RFCs and proofs of concept, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience building and running production systems.
• Strong backend proficiency in Kotlin and/or Python, including reliable services and APIs.
• Hands-on Android device-fleet experience covering Android app or system development, AOSP, APK deployment, ADB, telemetry, remote command and control, and provisioning.
• Deep AWS experience with AWS IoT Core, MQTT, Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, and Terraform.
• Experience building AI agent systems with LLM tool use through MCP or an equivalent, agent guardrails, and evaluations.
• Experience as a technical or engineering lead owning architectural direction, setting standards, partnering with product and design, and unblocking engineers.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or Copilot.
• Ownership from ambiguity through production, sound architectural judgment, curiosity about field operations, and a collaborative enabling leadership style.

Nice to have

• BLE-based configuration, mobile provisioning workflows, and iOS/Swift with CoreBluetooth.
• React and Node.js experience for Ops Portal and Lambda contributions or reviews.
• Digital signage or kiosk-mode Android fleet experience.
• Kafka or equivalent event streaming experience.
• CloudWatch, X-Ray, OpenTelemetry, Mixpanel, and instrumentation-focused development.
• Healthcare or other regulated-environment experience, including HIPAA and PHI handling.
