Senior Development Scientist

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States; hybrid workplace

Annual base salary: $116,600–$177,800, plus potential discretionary or non-discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Develop, design, and execute complex experiments supporting research, feasibility, product development, and qualification.
• Lead or contribute to technical and interdisciplinary teams, coordinating work and supervising direct reports.
• Prepare experimental procedures, laboratory notebooks, batch and test records, and related development documentation.
• Analyze complex scientific data using statistical methods and software, then present findings, issues, solutions, and recommendations.
• Troubleshoot and optimize experiments, conduct literature and market research, and procure reagents and equipment.
• Support invention disclosures, patent applications, grant proposals, posters, papers, and cross-functional product deliverables.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience; supervisory or management experience is required.
• Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. A master's degree may be considered with additional independent and productive research or development experience; a bachelor's degree may be considered with additional experience, including at least 6 years of hands-on MSD platform experience.
• Experience analyzing complex scientific data is required, along with strong scientific fundamentals and an analytical background.
• Training and experience with BSL-2 techniques are required.
• Advanced knowledge of statistics is required, as well as strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
• Leadership and staff-management skills, including setting accountabilities and expectations, assigning priorities, and managing performance, are required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, initiative, self-motivation, attention to detail, and commitment to quality are required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required; expertise in GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Excel, and SharePoint is required.
• The role involves laboratory work with chemical reagents, human blood or blood products, and BSL-2 materials or organisms; up to 70% of the day may be spent at a laboratory bench, with occasional work above four feet and lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.

Nice to have

• Two years of industrial immunoassay development experience.
• Additional postdoctoral or industrial experience.
