Associate Director, Technical Motion Design

Location: Remote in the United States or Canada; roles are open in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, and New York. U.S. work authorization is required through participation in E-Verify.

Salary: $122,700–$146,900 USD for U.S. remote roles; C$122,973–C$146,730 for Canada.

What you will do

• Define and maintain the technical roadmap for the OpenAI motion pipeline, improving speed, quality, scalability, and production consistency.
• Build and maintain scripts, plugins, expressions, templates, presets, component libraries, and AI-assisted tools for production, versioning, localization, quality control, and delivery.
• Design localization-ready workflows, reusable motion systems, file standards, review processes, dependency management, and archiving practices.
• Improve integrations between Figma, After Effects, review platforms, trackers, storage, and delivery systems so feedback, approvals, versions, and source files remain traceable.
• Remain hands-on by prototyping technical approaches, solving complex builds, debugging failures, and creating reference implementations.
• Manage, mentor, train, and support Motion Designers while partnering with creative, production, quality control, localization, project, and client stakeholders.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in motion design, technical direction, creative technology, animation production, or a related role.
• A strong motion portfolio or technical body of work demonstrating high-quality execution and systems usable by other creatives.
• Deep expertise in Adobe After Effects, including expressions, project architecture, rendering, troubleshooting, and reusable template construction.
• Experience building or maintaining creative-production tools through scripting, plugins, APIs, node-based workflows, or automation; JavaScript or ExtendScript experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of Figma and Adobe Premiere.
• Experience with localization, large-scale versioning, responsive motion layouts, structured copy handoffs, production quality assurance, and delivery standards.
• Experience managing, mentoring, or developing creative team members and explaining technical concepts to people with different expertise levels.
• Excellent debugging, systems-thinking, communication, and documentation skills, including judgment to choose maintainable solutions over fragile shortcuts.
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Animation, Computer Science, Film, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with 3D tools, generative video, command-line workflows, Python, or render automation.
