Project Accountant

Location: Flexible and may be performed remotely; California preferred. Hybrid work and flexible remote work are available in approved states.

Compensation: $70,000–$80,000 annually, negotiable based on experience. The benefits section also states a $65,000–$80,000 salary range, with bonus opportunities and 401(k) contributions.

What you will do

• Review project contracts, financial obligations, and contractual compliance requirements.
• Maintain project data and databases, prepare standard and special reports, and support project schedules.
• Prepare contract-compliant client invoices, including labor detail, backup documentation, portal submission, and pre-authorization for out-of-scope work.
• Review subconsultant and subcontractor invoices against agreements, rate tables, and periods of performance.
• Monitor unbilled amounts, WIP, aged accounts receivable, collections, and write-off requests.
• Track budget-to-actual variance, maintain EAC/ETC, resolve overbudget issues with project managers, and provide PMO process guidance.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in a Project Accountant or Cost Accountant role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and/or equivalent experience.
• Experience analyzing project costs and budgets.
• Understanding of revenue recognition rules.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially strong Excel skills and the ability to pivot data.
• Excellent organization, time management, interpersonal, customer service, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong task ownership, follow-through, attention to detail, initiative, and ability to prioritize multiple projects while working independently and collaboratively.
• Team-oriented work ethic and desire to learn new skills and grow professionally.

Nice to have

• Experience with project accounting software such as Deltek VantagePoint, Deltek Vision, Jamis, or Sage.
