Engineering (Satellite Propulsion)

Location: Tokyo, Sumida-ku, Japan; hybrid workplace

What you will do

• Design and develop satellite propulsion systems, including chemical and electric propulsion, based on mission requirements and system-level trade-offs.
• Conduct design studies and analyses for propulsion systems and components, including layouts, 3D CAD designs, drawings, and subsystem interfaces.
• Coordinate technical specifications, supplier negotiations, external development partners, procurement activities, and delivery progress.
• Plan and support satellite system testing, launch operations, on-orbit operations, and propulsion-related satellite operations.
• Optimize propulsion solutions for cost, mass, manufacturing, assembly, and operability, including cost-reduction initiatives and progress monitoring.
• Report progress to team, group, and project managers.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience designing and developing systems using fluid control equipment, high-pressure gas equipment, mobility, or similar technologies.
• Experience coordinating and negotiating with suppliers.
• Commercial awareness covering cost and delivery management and supply-chain development.
• Ability to use CAD modeling tools to create 3D designs and layouts.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• English proficiency equivalent to TOEIC 750 or higher.
• Native-level Japanese required for communication with domestic customers and suppliers.
• Candidates must be from an export-safe country under Japanese export control requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience developing and operating satellite or other spacecraft propulsion systems in orbit.
• Knowledge of satellite system development processes.
• Experience improving cost, assembly, and manufacturability.
