Senior Spacecraft Propulsion Systems Engineer II (Aerospace)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; based in the US office. US citizenship is required due to program requirements, and the role is subject to ITAR-related eligibility requirements.

Base pay range: $132,000–$198,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Own new or existing propulsion products and systems as technical lead through the end-to-end development process.
• Perform conceptual and detailed performance calculations, system modeling, static and transient analysis, validation, and system design.
• Gather, define, and manage requirements and lead systems engineering activities.
• Plan, instrument, execute, and analyze propulsion system tests.
• Manage schedules, priorities, task assignments, technical risks, and communication with stakeholders and leadership.
• Mentor engineers and technicians and maintain team standards through documentation, training, coaching, and reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, or another engineering or technical discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in propulsion system development or another high-performance field.
• US citizenship is required due to program requirements.
• Expertise in propulsion system modeling, static and transient analysis, and model validation using Amesim, EcosimPro, Simulink, or Simscape.
• Experience with the full development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, detailed design, qualification, production, and acceptance testing.
• Experience with all steps in the Systems Engineering V-model and risk-based decision-making.
• Experience with propulsion systems using different storable propellants, including electrical and chemical systems.

Nice to have

• Hands-on engineering experience, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to make decisions using engineering principles, literature, standards, risk assessments, test data, and physics-based models.
• Experience planning technical work, scheduling delivery, and managing execution.
• Experience with Jama, Python for data manipulation and post-processing, NX or equivalent CAD, GD&T, engineering drawings, and PLM tools such as Teamcenter or Windchill.
• Experience with National Instruments data acquisition systems and testing or troubleshooting flight hardware.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Master’s degree or PhD.
