Entry Level Instrument, Electrical and Controls (IE&C) Engineer (Industrial Manufacturing)

Location: On-site in Decatur, Alabama, United States; approximately 5% travel to industrial and construction sites.

Base salary: $80,000–$90,000 USD per year, plus performance-based bonuses.

What you will do

• Design new and modified instrumentation, electrical, and controls systems for chemical processing and industrial facilities.
• Develop IE&C installation drawings in AutoCAD and Revit, data sheets, specifications, contractor bid packages, technical reports, and project proposals.
• Develop and troubleshoot Rockwell Automation PLC logic, instrumentation and controls elements of P&IDs, and systems including power distribution, motor controls, VFDs, DCS, communications, and backup power.
• Coordinate designs with multidisciplinary engineers and designers while monitoring scope, schedule, budget, resources, design changes, and technical quality.
• Prepare material and equipment quotations, conduct design reviews, and ensure compliance with client requirements, codes, regulations, and safety standards.
• Gather field data, support construction, inspect installations, observe operations, and assist with startup and commissioning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Passed the FE exam, hold EIT certification, or be willing to complete the FE exam within an agreed timeframe after hire.
• Relevant internship, co-op, academic project, or entry-level experience involving instrumentation, electrical power, controls, manufacturing, process, or heavy industrial facilities.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers and designers, track assigned work, communicate progress, and complete work within established scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
• Ability to work at industrial plants and construction sites, including climbing multi-level stair towers and rung ladders, walking up to one mile outdoors, carrying equipment cases weighing 15 pounds or less, hearing safety alarms while wearing hearing protection, and working in protective clothing for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
