Senior AI Engineer

Location: New York City Metropolitan Area, United States; hybrid work with onsite client visits and attendance at the NYC office once per week. Other locations include Brooklyn, Manhattan, New York, New Jersey, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Base salary: $180,000–$200,000 plus bonuses; OTE up to $250,000.

What you will do

• Learn customer operating constraints from the inside, rebuild business functions from first principles, and build the resulting systems alongside the client and Forward Deployed Executive.
• Work as part of the customer’s team, owning the delivery method autonomously from problem framing through production.
• Use existing industry Blueprints as a baseline and feed field learnings back into those working systems.
• Deliver Cowork Activation, Agentic SDLC, and Blueprint Activations for financial services and healthcare.
• Help enterprises adopt AI from strategy through first deployment and build tooling and frameworks for the AI delivery practice.

Requirements

• Typically 7+ years of software development experience, with substantial production coding responsibility; hands-on work must remain a current focus.
• Ability and willingness to understand unfamiliar business functions quickly before writing code.
• Production experience shipping GenAI/LLM systems beyond demos and notebooks, including the challenges after prototyping.
• Experience building or owning an evaluation suite for a non-deterministic system and explaining what was measured and why.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to become productive in unfamiliar codebases or languages.
• Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript; depth matters more than a specific stack.
• Cloud-native delivery experience on AWS, including operational ownership of systems inherited by others; GCP or Azure is a plus.
• Pre-sales experience and the ability to communicate credibly with senior business and technical stakeholders.
• Comfort with ambiguity, underspecified engagements, and autonomous ownership.
• Hands-on experience with Claude, Claude Code, and Cowork, including skills, workflows, MCP, integrations, connectors, or custom harnesses.

Nice to have

• Production experience with containers and orchestration, including Kubernetes or ECS, and CI/CD.
• Infrastructure-as-code experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
• Open-source contributions or public writing on applied AI.

Hiring process

• Recruitment interview followed by a 30-minute technical interview with an FDE.
• Live 1.5-hour engineering building session involving an unfamiliar business function, constraint discovery, proposed implementation, and explanation of how success would be measured; AI-generated code is expected and candidates should explain their AI use, judgment, and research.
• Soft-skills interview followed by offer discussion; applications are filtered for AI-generated and fraudulent submissions, and quick ID verification may be requested.
