Senior Cloud Data Ops Engineer (Cloud DBA/Data Platform)

Location: Quincy, Massachusetts, United States

Compensation: $140,000–$180,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus.

What you will do

• Perform advanced DBA operations across SQL Server, Postgres, Oracle, and TimescaleDB, including installation, patching, backup and restore, HA/DR, security hardening, schema changes, and lifecycle management.
• Tune relational and time-series workloads using execution plans, indexing, wait-event analysis, I/O profiling, query rewrites, hypertables, chunk management, retention, and compression strategies.
• Operate CloudSQL, BigQuery, AWS RDS/Aurora, and GCVE-hosted SQL Server across GCP and AWS.
• Support migrations from on-premises and VM-based databases to managed cloud services and participate in multi-cloud readiness, incident response, and performance engineering.
• Manage Linux database environments, system-level performance tuning, and containerized or orchestrated environments using Docker, EKS, and GKE.
• Automate DBA operations with Bash, PowerShell, or Python; contribute to CI/CD and infrastructure automation; improve monitoring, alerting, self-service tooling, and reliability during on-call rotations.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on DBA experience with SQL Server, Postgres, Oracle, and TimescaleDB.
• Deep proficiency in SQL, performance tuning, indexing, execution-plan analysis, and workload optimization.
• Experience operating databases in GCP, including CloudSQL, BigQuery, and GCE/GCVE, and/or AWS, including RDS/Aurora.
• Solid Linux skills, including Bash scripting and system-level troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as pg_stat views, Query Store, Cloud Monitoring, CloudWatch, Zabbix, and Datadog.
• Ability to support mission-critical production systems in a multi-cloud environment.
• Strong understanding of DBA fundamentals applied to cloud-native and time-series contexts.

Nice to have

• Experience with Terraform, Azure DevOps, or other CI/CD and IaC tooling.
• Exposure to EKS, GKE, or other Kubernetes platforms.
• Familiarity with Docker and containerized database operations.
• Experience with OCI or Oracle Cloud services.
• Background in cloud migration, modernization, or hybrid cloud architectures.
