Senior Software Engineer (AI & ML)

What you will do

• Design, build, and run production LLM-based agents that automate multi-step underwriting decisions over unstructured data.
• Build the agent runtime with orchestration, durable state, retries, and long-running workflow recovery.
• Develop tools, RESTful APIs, and data services with clear contracts, predictable failure modes, and auditability.
• Engineer guardrails, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, fallbacks, tracing, monitoring, and production troubleshooting for high-stakes decisions.
• Drive system design, architecture, data modelling, database schema evolution, and Terraform-managed cloud infrastructure.
• Collaborate with business, product, engineering, and machine learning teams; review code, guide best practices, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience in Python or another backend language such as Go, Java, or C#; sufficient Python knowledge to transfer skills quickly if it is not the primary language.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-based agents or agentic systems in production, ideally with LangGraph, LangChain, or equivalent systems.
• Strong understanding of non-determinism, tool failures, runaway loops, cost, latency, and production reliability challenges in agentic systems.
• Strong asynchronous and concurrent programming experience with rigorous unit and integration testing practices.
• Day-to-day experience delivering software with AI coding agents while maintaining high code quality.
• End-to-end system design experience covering service boundaries, data flows, failure modes, and architectural trade-offs.
• Strong relational database and data modelling experience, including PostgreSQL schema design, query performance, transactions, concurrency, and safe migrations.
• Experience building distributed asynchronous microservices with message brokers such as Azure Service Bus, including at-least-once delivery, idempotency, and dead-letter handling.
• Experience building clear, documented RESTful APIs; the stack uses FastAPI.
• Strong cloud and infrastructure-as-code experience; hands-on Terraform and Azure experience is essential.
• Experience with Docker, production container platforms such as Azure Container Apps, Kubernetes, GKE, or ECS, CI/CD workflows, and YAML pipeline definitions.
• Clear communication, pragmatic judgement, independent working ability, influence in technical decisions, and mentoring skills.

• Experience building agents for high-stakes or regulated decision-making.
• Experience working with data scientists on non-deterministic systems.
• Experience using Databricks.
• Experience working in insurance.
