Описание вакансии

Текст:

TL;DR
Senior Engineer, RF/Performance RAN Simulation, IRIS2 (5G-NTN): Modelling and assessing 5G RAN and RF performance for terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks with an accent on FR2 radio performance, beam hopping, coverage enhancement, and radio protocol call flows. Focus on building simulations, evaluating link budgets and network KPIs, validating performance against requirements, and translating results into design decisions and supplier evaluation criteria.

Location: Betzdorf, Luxembourg; 60% onsite from the office. Travel is required as needed for project realization.

Company

hirify.global is working with consortium partners to build and operate IRIS², a European Union secure multi-orbit satellite communications constellation.

What you will do

  • Define and develop RAN/RF performance models and simulations for 5G and 5G-NTN, covering coverage, capacity, link budget, throughput, latency, interference, mobility, and service availability.
  • Analyze 5G call flows and radio procedures, including synchronization, random access, RRC connection establishment, registration, PDU hirify.globalsions, mobility, and beam management.
  • Model FR2 RF performance involving propagation, beamforming, antenna gain, EIRP, G/T, path loss, atmospheric loshirify.global, interference, Doppler, timing advance, and link adaptation.
  • Study beam hopping and coverage enhancement, including beam planning, resource allocation, dwell time, service continuity, and user experience.
  • Support technical studies, testing, validation, system design trade-offs, and RFP/RFQ preparation by translating simulation results into requirements, acceptance criteria, and supplier evaluation inputs.
  • Document assumptions, models, results, sensitivity analyhirify.global, risks, and design recommendations while collaborating with RAN, RF, satellite, software, IVV, procurement, and supplier teams.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in engineering or science, preferably Telecommunications, Radio Communications, RF Engineering, Signal Processing, or a related discipline.
  • Telecom, satellite communications, or radio engineering industry experience; 7+ to 10+ years of relevant industry experience is preferred for the Senior Engineer level.
  • Strong knowledge of 3GPP 5G RAN and 5G-NTN standards, radio access procedures, physical-layer assumptions, RRC behaviour, SSB scheduling, MIB/SIB broadcasting, and radio resource management.
  • Hands-on RAN/RF performance modelling covering call-flow impacts, radio resource allocation, coverage, capacity, throughput, latency, link budget, interference, and mobility.
  • Good understanding of PHY/MAC interaction, RLC, PDCP, RRC, SSB scheduling, MIB/SIB broadcasting, random access, HARQ, link adaptation, and scheduling principles.
  • Experience using MATLAB or equivalent tools to build simulations, run parameter studies, analyze results, generate plots, and support RAN/RF design decisions; Python, link-level simulators, system-level simulators, or radio planning tools are relevant environments.
  • Knowledge of 5G-NTN constraints and enhancements, including satellite delay, Doppler, feeder and user links, beam management, beam hopping, coverage enhancement, and service continuity.
  • Ability to define and apply testing and validation principles covering requirements traceability, simulation assumptions, test coverage, performance KPIs, acceptance thresholds, and comparisons with lab or field results.
  • Eligibility for “SECRET” security clearance under national regulations and EU/ESA/NATO equivalents is required.

Nice to have

  • FR2 RF performance analysis, including mmWave propagation, beamforming, antenna patterns, blockage, atmospheric attenuation, high-gain antennas, and RF link-budget trade-offs.
  • Beam hopping, dynamic coverage management, energy-saving techniques, or AI/ML-based optimization for 5G RAN or 5G-NTN systems.
  • 3GPP-based performance studies, including specification interpretation, system assumptions, KPIs, simulation campaigns, and technical contributions to design or supplier discussions.
  • Experience contributing to RFP/RFQ packages, including technical requirements, performance-model assumptions, simulation evidence, acceptance KPIs, and vendor-response evaluation.

Culture & Benefits

  • Permanent employment contract.
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration with engineering, software, IVV, procurement, and supplier teams.
  • Work is performed 60% onsite from the office, with travel required for project realization.
  • Support for demanding study, simulation, integration, and validation schedules.
