Postdoctoral Research Associate (Nanoplastics/TEM)

Location: College Station, Texas, United States; full-time onsite, Monday–Friday

Proposed minimum salary: $4,166.67 monthly; salary otherwise commensurate.

What you will do

• Conduct independent cell biology research on the impacts of nanoplastics and analyze and summarize research data.
• Process tissue samples for transmission electron microscopy, including resin embedding, ultramicrotomy, and heavy metal staining.
• Operate and support the maintenance of the ultramicrotome, transmission electron microscope, and related laboratory equipment.
• Perform TEM imaging and data acquisition while maintaining organized sample tracking and project documentation.
• Publish research findings, write grant proposals, prepare presentations, and contribute to technical progress reports.
• May assist with mentoring or supervising student and graduate researchers.

Requirements

• Appropriate terminal degree, such as a PhD, DVM, MD, or DDS, in a related field.
• Ability to perform delicate, repetitive tasks with high precision and apply logic to troubleshoot problems.
• Ability to maintain rigorous labeling and cataloging standards and follow laboratory safety protocols for hazardous reagents.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Ability to work in low-light environments, sit for extended periods, lift, reach, or move up to 25 pounds, and use high-precision tweezers and microscope equipment.
• The position is security sensitive and requires compliance with applicable state and federal laws, university policies, regulations, rules, procedures, and safety requirements.
• The position may require travel, work beyond normal office hours or on weekends, and directing or evaluating the work of others.
• Employment is contingent on satisfactory performance and continuation of grant or contract funding.

Nice to have

• Experience in cell biology, histology, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, or a related field.
• Publication record demonstrating completion of cutting-edge research projects.
• Previous experience in a research or core laboratory environment.
• Experience with microscopy, including TEM, SEM, or optical microscopy.
• Experience with tissue processing, embedding, or microtomy.
• Experience using spreadsheets or databases.
• Knowledge of ImageJ/Fiji, Adobe Photoshop, or proprietary microscopy acquisition software.
