Senior Platform Engineer, Data (Azure)

Location: Remote nationwide within the United States; candidates must reside in and be authorized to work within the United States. Periodic travel for team meetings, onsite collaboration, or client engagements may be required.

Salary: $101,600–$152,400 annually, based on experience.

What you will do

• Design, build, test, deploy, monitor, and improve scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Apache Spark, and Python.
• Implement Delta Lake patterns on Azure Data Lake Storage, event-driven integrations, reusable pipeline templates, and data quality monitoring.
• Provision and operate Azure infrastructure and platform services using infrastructure as code, including identity, observability, CI/CD, and cost-management practices.
• Design secure Azure networking architectures, configure Private Link connectivity, troubleshoot DNS and routing, and apply encryption, secrets management, and firewall controls.
• Write maintainable Python and SQL, participate in architecture and code reviews, address technical debt, and support production incidents.
• Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, data science, cloud, infrastructure, product, and business stakeholders while mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of hands-on engineering experience, including meaningful experience across data engineering and cloud platform or infrastructure domains.
• 3+ years working with Microsoft Azure in production, including ADF, ADLS Gen2, Databricks, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Event Hub, and Azure Monitor.
• 2+ years of hands-on Azure networking experience with VNets, NSGs, Private Endpoints, Private DNS, service endpoints, and firewalls.
• 2+ years developing with Apache Spark and Databricks, including Delta Lake table design, schema evolution, and performance optimization.
• 4+ years of production SQL development involving complex transformations, query tuning, indexing, and enterprise-scale data modeling.
• Strong Python development skills for data engineering, pipeline orchestration, or platform tooling.
• Experience with infrastructure as code; Terraform is preferred, while Bicep or ARM is acceptable.
• Experience building and maintaining Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, with familiarity with trunk-based development and pull request workflows.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and working knowledge of Azure AD, Managed Identities, RBAC, and Key Vault.
• Strong engineering fundamentals, including automated testing, code reviews, telemetry, iterative delivery, and DevOps.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Unity Catalog, column-level security, data masking, audit logging, and other data platform security and governance practices.
• Software engineering background in APIs, microservices, or distributed systems.
• Experience with relational, columnar, key-value, or graph storage architectures.
• Healthcare dataset experience, including familiarity with HL7 or EDI standards.
• Experience supporting AI/ML or advanced analytics workloads, such as feature stores, training data pipelines, or model serving infrastructure.
• Familiarity with AKS, container networking, Kubernetes deployment patterns, FinOps, Databricks cost management, or Azure cost optimization tooling.
• Relevant Azure certifications such as AZ-305, DP-203, or AZ-700.
