TL;DR
Efficient Cat Qubit Simulation Intern (Quantum Computing) (Tensor Networks/Quantum Trajectories): Developing efficient simulations of many-mode cat-qubit systems to estimate bit-flip probabilities and rates with an accent on tensor-network representations, Lindblad quantum trajectories, and numerical robustness. Focus on validating simulation accuracy, benchmarking computational scaling, and interpreting error mechanisms in multi-mode quantum operations.
Location: Hybrid in Paris, France
Company
Alice & Bob is developing a universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer based on superconducting Schrödinger cat qubits with autonomous quantum error correction.
What you will do
Develop tensor-network and quantum-trajectory simulation methods for many-mode cat-qubit systems using Lindblad master-equation unravelings.
Extend efficient single-cat-qubit simulation methods to multi-mode operations and estimate bit-flip probabilities and rates from simulated trajectories.
Verify numerical robustness through Hilbert-space and bond-dimension truncation, solver stability, precision, and convergence checks.
Validate results against exact master-equation and single-qubit references, theoretical predictions, and standard Monte Carlo sampling.
Analyse bit-flip trajectories, explain discrepancies with theoretical expectations, and quantify computational cost and scaling.
Document methods, code, and results; present progress and recommendations to the Simulation Model team.
Requirements
Master’s or final-year engineering student with a strong background in quantum physics and numerical methods.
Proficient in English.
Good understanding of quantum mechanics and open quantum systems, including density matrices and Lindblad master equations.
Programming experience in Python or Julia for scientific computing.
Autonomy and comfort with open-ended research questions without a guaranteed answer.
Clear technical communication and a collaborative attitude within a multidisciplinary team.
No prior professional experience is required.
Nice to have
Familiarity with quantum trajectories and stochastic unraveling.
Exposure to tensor-network methods such as matrix product states.
Knowledge of Monte Carlo methods and statistical estimation.
Experience with Julia, numerical ODE/SDE solvers, GPU-accelerated computing, or high-performance computing.
Rigorous numerical practice, including convergence checks, truncation control, and solver and precision selection.
Experience reading and applying current research literature.
Previous research, project, or internship experience in quantum physics or scientific computing.
