Senior FPGA Engineer (FPGA)

What you will do

• Define, architect, design, develop, document, and test FPGA firmware for communication systems across concurrent research, development, and production programmes.
• Analyse system requirements, derive firmware requirements, and develop firmware architecture and reusable FPGA modules.
• Create module-level and full-design test specifications, integrate testing with continuous integration systems, and perform hardware and software integration.
• Improve firmware tools, processes, techniques, quality, and development efficiency while balancing requirements, schedule, and cost.
• Support customer meetings, technical proposals, effort and cost estimates, bids, and risk assessments.
• Manage information security in accordance with the Security Manual and applicable government regulations.

Requirements

• Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain SC security clearance is essential.
• Degree in engineering, mathematics, or a science-based subject, or equivalent experience.
• Experience designing and implementing FPGA modules.
• Thorough experience with Xilinx, Lattice, Altera, or Microsemi FPGAs and their associated development toolchains.
• Experience with FPGA firmware testing, test tools, and design for test.
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand hardware schematics.
• Experience with version control, change control, and bug-tracking tools and systems.
• Applicants must be British citizens resident in the UK for the past 5 years to apply for SC clearance.

Nice to have

• Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain DV security clearance.
• Experience with or exposure to best-practice firmware development processes and lifecycles.
• Experience with or exposure to continuous integration and automated test tools and frameworks.
• Exposure to defence, space, or airworthiness coding standards and techniques such as MISRA.
• Experience with DOORS and Enterprise Architect.
