Engineering Manager, Software (AI Cloud)

What you will do

• Lead squads responsible for the AI Cloud APIs, control plane, web console, SDKs, CLI, and Terraform provider.
• Hire, coach, develop, and manage engineers; own team structure, headcount planning, performance, and engineering culture.
• Translate the roadmap into predictable delivery, manage cross-squad dependencies, and balance velocity, reliability, technical debt, and product priorities.
• Set technical direction for API and control-plane design, customer contracts, product SLAs, build-versus-buy decisions, and rigorous design and code review.
• Own production reliability, security, SLOs, on-call, incident response, change management, compliance controls, and infrastructure cost efficiency.
• Represent engineering in leadership discussions, customer technical briefings, and escalations involving delivery, reliability, or architecture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field.
• 4+ years managing engineers, with direct ownership of hiring, growth, and performance for a team of at least 8 engineers.
• 10+ years in software engineering, including a strong hands-on background as a senior or staff engineer before moving into management, with continued ability to reason deeply about architecture.
• Track record building high-performing, self-improving engineering teams and predictable delivery across multiple teams and dependencies.
• Deep experience designing and operating customer-facing APIs and control-plane services in production, including OpenAPI or gRPC contracts, versioning, and SDKs, CLIs, or IaC providers.
• Experience building secure-by-default, multi-tenant software at scale, including identity and authorization, tenancy isolation, API gateways, rate limiting, billing, or metering.
• Fluency in Go or Python on a cloud-native foundation using Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD; able to contribute effectively to design reviews and technical trade-offs.
• Experience delivering customer-facing web applications with React or similar, including API-to-UI contracts.
• Experience with production reliability, SLOs, on-call, incident management, change control, security, and compliance; experience with SOC 2 Type 2 or ISO 27001 is relevant.
• Experience with AI-assisted development and agentic AI, including reviewing and security-gating AI-generated code and workloads in production.
• Ownership of infrastructure, platform, or software costs, balancing cost against reliability and speed.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including presenting to senior technical leadership and briefing enterprise or government customers.
• Willingness to participate in the incident-response on-call rotation and travel overseas occasionally when required.
