TL;DR
Principal Space Avionics Hardware Development Engineer (Space Avionics/PCB Design): Designing and qualifying flight-critical electrical hardware for satellite buses, reentry vehicles, and customer payloads with an accent on PCB design, avionics architecture, high-speed signal integrity, power electronics, and environmental testing. Focus on translating mission objectives into robust hardware requirements, diagnosing failures under demanding space-environment conditions, and integrating avionics across vehicle systems.
Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States
Salary: $181,913–$262,763 per year, plus eligibility for long-term incentives in the form of stock options and/or long-term cash awards.
Company
hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses, built, integrated, and tested in-house.
What you will do
Architect and design flight-critical electrical hardware for satellite buses, reentry vehicles, and customer payloads, including flight computers, power systems, and sensors.
Own PCB electronics design across schematic capture, layout, validation, fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing test.
Contribute to avionics architecture, system design, subsystem requirements, standards, processes, and developmental milestones.
Support GNC, pharmaceutical, mission operations, integration, flight software, thermal, and structures teams as an avionics subject matter expert.
Lead product acceptance and qualification testing for thermal, vibration, shock, TVAC, and EMI environments, and support vehicle-level integration testing.
Perform root-cause analysis on test failures, implement flight-risk mitigations, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
8+ years of direct electronics hardware design experience, including schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, and environmental qualification, in aerospace, automotive, or another high-reliability industry; at least 3 years must be directly on space hardware.
Experience owning the architecture and implementation of complex electronics systems from design through production or deployment.
Advanced PCB design expertise, including high-speed signal integrity, power and grounding, and electromagnetic compatibility.
Experience taking complex PCB designs through fabrication and assembly; expert use of Altium and/or KiCad EDA suites.
Strong hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, function generators, benchtop digital multimeters, and power supplies.
Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or another scripting/data-analysis language.
Experience implementing hardware layers for on-board and over-harness communication protocols, including SPI, RS422, and 1000BASE-T.
Understanding of aerospace sensors and actuators, including RTDs, pressure transducers, brushless motors, solenoid valves, thermocouples, stepper motors, and rotary/linear encoders.
Employment in the United States requires lawful U.S. work authorization; access to export-controlled technology requires U.S. person status.
Nice to have
Industry-leading electronic circuit design and analysis skills.
Strong supporting knowledge of physics, mathematics, and chemistry fundamentals for electronics operating in unique environments.
Culture & Benefits
Work is conducted on-site at the El Segundo production facility.
Vehicles, equipment, and materials are built, integrated, and tested in-house.
Long-term incentives may include stock options and/or long-term cash awards.
Inclusive employment environment with evaluation based on merit, qualifications, and performance.
