TL;DR
Senior Space Systems Engineer, Avionics (Aerospace): Designing, integrating, and testing avionics systems for Varda’s Winnebago spacecraft with an accent on electrical architecture, mission readiness, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Focus on analyzing system faults, developing FDIR mitigations, operating mission systems during reentry, and integrating flight and ground test infrastructure.
Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Candidates must be U.S. persons authorized to access export-controlled technology.
Salary: $140,333–$202,703 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.
Company
hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses, built and operated in-house.
What you will do
Define avionics project scopes and requirements with cross-functional engineering teams, guiding designs from concept through prototype and production.
Develop electrical architectures, system diagrams, and budgets covering power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass.
Analyze faults and risks, develop mitigation plans, and support FDIR or operational workarounds.
Plan and execute verification for flight and hardware-in-the-loop avionics systems supporting launch, space operations, and reentry.
Lead Winnebago avionics integration, investigate integrated-system issues, and participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist or system operator.
Design, build, and operate HITL testbeds and avionics ground infrastructure, including test racks and R&D equipment; improve test automation and mentor engineers.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
5+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
Proficiency in programming and debugging with Python.
Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4–20 mA devices, and general test equipment.
Must be a U.S. person: U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or individual granted asylum, due to ITAR and export-control access requirements.
Nice to have
Experience taking vehicle electrical systems from concept through operational production.
Experience setting up HITL testbeds, managing configuration control, and conducting system-level tests.
Familiarity with Unix environments and command-line utilities.
Experience developing test cases and test equipment for vehicle operating conditions.
Strong project or program management skills.
Relevant experience as an avionics hardware, FPGA, electronics test, or electrical systems engineer.
Culture & Benefits
Work in an in-house space infrastructure and vehicle production environment.
Opportunities to contribute to engineering best practices, continuous improvement, and increased test efficiency.
Stock options and/or long-term cash awards may be available as incentives.
Inclusive equal-opportunity workplace with evaluation based on merit, qualifications, and performance.
