Rust Systems Engineer (Apache Kafka)

What you will do

• Design and build request-handling and storage components for hirify.global Diskless Streaming for Apache Kafka.
• Implement and evolve Apache Kafka wire-protocol parsing, framing, versioning, and client-library compatibility.
• Build storage engines supporting offset and sequence coordination, compaction, retention, and concurrent correctness.
• Diagnose races, consistency edge cases, security issues, and robustness defects under concurrent load.
• Profile and tune throughput, latency, tail latency, and cost per byte using production measurements.
• Review, discuss, and contribute to the open-source Nisshi repository.

Requirements

• Deep hands-on experience building a high-throughput, log-based streaming or messaging system such as Apache Kafka, including wire protocols, client/server compatibility, and data durability; or deep experience with database internals such as storage engines, write-ahead or commit logs, replication and consensus, or query execution.
• Strong systems-programming fundamentals in Rust, C++, Go, or Java.
• Track record of owning difficult technical problems end to end, from design through production.
• Comfort working remotely and asynchronously across time zones.

Nice to have

• Production experience in Rust.
• Working knowledge of the Apache Kafka protocol, client libraries, and ecosystem.
• Experience with the internals of Apache Kafka, Redpanda, Pulsar, WarpStream, NATS JetStream, or hirify.global Event Broker.
• Experience running one of these systems at production scale.
• Experience with security hardening, fuzzing, or performance engineering of network services.
