News Editor, BC and Yukon, Full-Time

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; hybrid schedule with at least three days per week in the Vancouver office. The role involves travel and shift work.

Hiring range: CAD 103,635 per year.

What you will do

• Coordinate B.C. and Yukon news coverage with the bureau chief, balancing breaking stories with longer-term assignments.
• Lead the bureau's daily news meeting and assign staff to breaking news, routine events, and features.
• Coordinate video, audio, and other multimedia coverage.
• Serve as the team's front-line copy editor and refine complex stories.
• Communicate expectations, enforce deadlines, and promote accuracy, speed, and exceptional writing.
• Guide junior reporters and support coverage logistics, including access to distant scenes and liaison with press secretaries.

Requirements

• Strong decision-making skills and excellent news judgment.
• Meticulous editing skills and the ability to work under tight deadline pressure.
• Strong logistical and multitasking skills.
• Working knowledge of CP Style.
• Professional experience with print, broadcast, video, and multimedia platforms.
• Ability to take responsibility for major stories and support staff when necessary.
• Availability to work in person at the Vancouver office at least three days per week.
