Senior Systems Engineer (Aerospace Defense)

Location: Colorado Springs, CO; travel to CONUS and OCONUS operational sites may be required for up to 20% of the time.

Salary: $160,000–$200,000 per year.

What you will do

• Establish the systems engineering foundation for the SPARTAN secure distributed network supporting the U.S. Space Force.
• Lead the architecture, design, build, integration, and fielding of the out-of-band management network, including switching, routing, console access, segmentation, and independent transport.
• Design and deploy AAA, directory and certificate services, time synchronization, DNS, logging, monitoring, compute, virtualization, and storage services.
• Create repeatable node baselines, documentation, test procedures, and automation for configuration, backup, compliance, and deployment.
• Manage requirements, architecture views, ICDs, design reviews, trade studies, risk assessments, verification, validation, and acceptance testing.
• Apply RMF, DISA STIGs, and hardening baselines; coordinate with cybersecurity personnel and produce authorization and continuous-monitoring artifacts.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI security clearance are required.
• Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline; four additional years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree subject to contract requirements.
• At least 8 years of systems, network, or infrastructure engineering experience, including at least 3 years in hands-on design and build work.
• Experience designing and deploying management infrastructure for enterprise or mission networks, including OOB networks, network management systems, or data center infrastructure.
• Working knowledge of routing, switching, VLANs, IP addressing, and network segmentation.
• Experience administering Linux and virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere or KVM.
• Experience deploying AAA using TACACS+ or RADIUS, DNS, NTP, syslog, and SNMP or streaming telemetry.
• Experience with Python, Bash, Ansible, or similar scripting and automation tools.
• Experience developing requirements, architecture documentation, and test procedures in DoD or other government environments under RMF security requirements.
• Ability to work independently, set technical direction, coordinate across engineering disciplines, and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
• Active CompTIA Security+ certification is required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a related technical discipline and experience as the lead or first systems engineer on a new or growing program.
• Experience building geographically distributed OOB networks, using console servers, OOB access appliances, and lights-out server management interfaces.
• Experience with SolarWinds, Zabbix, LibreNMS, Grafana, Splunk, infrastructure as code, Git, NetBox, PKI, identity management, or privileged access management.
• Familiarity with network encryption devices, COMSEC management, DISA STIGs, SCAP, ACAS, secure DoD networks, or network operations centers.
• Familiarity with AWS or Microsoft Azure government cloud environments, MBSE, SysML, DOORS, Jama, U.S. Space Force, or Space Domain Awareness missions.
• INCOSE ASEP/CSEP, professional networking, CISSP, RHCSA, VCP, or related Linux and virtualization certifications.
