Performance Software Engineer (Storage/Distributed Systems)

Location: Hybrid role in Morrisville, North Carolina, United States; most roles have some level of in-office and/or in-person expectations.

Salary: 147,900–220,000 USD target OTE, including base salary and potential commission.

What you will do

• Design, develop, analyze, and optimize software and performance capabilities for storage services and distributed systems.
• Design and execute performance benchmarks and workloads; measure, interpret, and communicate results to identify improvement opportunities.
• Apply AI-assisted performance engineering and develop tools for performance analysis and automated regression triage.
• Evaluate design alternatives and prototype performance enhancements across platforms and distributed components.
• Analyze customer experience and usage patterns and provide findings and recommendations to engineering and management.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to improve performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency while meeting customer and market requirements.

Requirements

• Typically at least 5 years of related experience for an individual contributor role.
• Hands-on experience with performance analysis, modeling techniques, benchmarking, and workload characterization.
• Proficiency with scripting and automation using Python and shell; Perl is acceptable.
• Experience with Ansible playbooks and comfort working with notebooks such as Jupyter.
• Strong Linux administration background, such as RHEL or Ubuntu.
• Systems-focused, analytical, and creative approach to delivering measurable performance improvements at scale.

• Understanding of networking protocols and storage management.
