Senior Database Specialist (SQL Server)

Location: Bogotá, Colombia; hybrid work model with 4 days onsite and 1 day remote.

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable, resilient, highly available enterprise database architectures.
• Lead HA/DR initiatives using Always On, clustering, and replication, as well as migrations, platform upgrades, and cloud modernization.
• Define database governance standards, operational procedures, security controls, and compliance practices.
• Drive performance engineering through query tuning, workload optimization, indexing, proactive monitoring, alerting, and root cause analysis.
• Develop automation with PowerShell and T-SQL, enable CI/CD and DevOps database deployments, and reduce operational effort through self-service capabilities.
• Partner with architects, application, infrastructure, analytics, AI/ML, and business teams while mentoring colleagues and contributing to technical roadmaps.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in SQL Server database engineering and administration, including enterprise platforms and complex production environments.
• Experience leading complex database initiatives, including migrations, HA/DR implementations, and performance optimization programs.
• Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server architecture, administration, and database internals.
• Advanced knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery technologies, including Always On, clustering, and replication.
• Advanced experience with database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies, plus strong backup, recovery, and data protection experience.
• Experience developing automation solutions with PowerShell and T-SQL.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills, with experience collaborating across global teams and stakeholders.
• Advanced English proficiency, written and verbal, is required for communication with global stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300), Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305), DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400), or Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) certification.
• Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Managed Instance, AWS RDS, or other cloud database platforms.
• Experience in regulated healthcare, life sciences, or GxP environments.
• Knowledge of data governance, data integrity including ALCOA+, and compliance frameworks.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code.
• ITIL, CISSP, or TOGAF certification.
