Generalist Infrastructure Engineer (AI)

Location: New York City, United States; on-site at the NYC HQ

Salary: $300K–$500K annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own cloud architecture, infrastructure fleets, object storage, data pipelines, and CI/CD for petabytes of gameplay video.
• Design systems that support both AI research workloads and consumer-facing production traffic.
• Make architecture decisions for 10x growth in data, traffic, and team size.
• Move from infrastructure design into application code when required to solve problems end to end.
• Build the New York infrastructure function, set technical direction, hire and develop engineers, and define design, review, deployment, and operations practices.
• Partner directly with research and product engineering across hirify.global and Medal on system design.

Requirements

• Deep, hands-on production experience with cloud and storage, including Terraform, IAM, Kubernetes, and object storage on a major cloud.
• 6+ years of hands-on experience with planet-scale distributed systems such as search infrastructure, large-scale storage or query systems, or time-series systems.
• Strong fundamentals in storage, query engines, consistency, and production operations.
• Track record of building infrastructure from scratch, ideally as a founder or one of the first infrastructure engineers.
• Experience setting technical direction, raising engineering standards, hiring, and remaining hands-on with code.
• Ability to work across the stack from low-level infrastructure through application code.
• High agency and sound judgment when priorities shift between research and live consumer products.
• Must work on-site in New York City, United States.

Nice to have

• Video or media experience at petabyte scale, or genuine gaming experience and familiarity with gaming data.
• Depth in ML tooling such as PyTorch or JAX, world models, data platforms and orchestration such as Dagster, GPU training clusters, or systems programming in Rust or C++.
• Serious open-source contributions.
• Experience running infrastructure for research workloads and consumer-facing production traffic simultaneously.
