Human Interactive Driving Intern, Platform Research Systems Integration (AI/Automotive)

Location: Los Altos, California, United States; hybrid, in-office role

What you will do

• Design and integrate an AI monitoring system for custom vehicle platforms.
• Explore integrating audio and video data with CAN data for vehicle monitoring.
• Deploy and run monitoring and AI models on in-vehicle edge computers.
• Assist with hardware-software system integration and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Document integration processes, procedures, and outcomes while improving integration methodologies.
• Communicate across teams and contribute to engineering projects from concept through execution.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
• Strong interest in integrating mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
• Proficiency in Python, including NumPy, pandas, and writing tested code.
• Experience with embedded Linux and edge AI hardware, ideally NVIDIA Jetson with JetPack, CUDA, TensorRT or ONNX Runtime, and Docker on ARM64.
• Familiarity with C++, MATLAB/SIMULINK, and Ethernet/CAN networks.
• Self-motivation, continuous-learning mindset, adaptability, and strong problem-solving and troubleshooting aptitude.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• CAD experience.
• Coursework or project experience in machine learning and/or LLMs, including prompting, tool or function calling, and evaluation.
• Experience optimizing models for edge inference, including quantization, TensorRT, or DeepStream.
• Knowledge of ROS or other relevant programming skills.
• Familiarity with safety-critical system design processes such as FMEA and FTA.
