Principal R&D Laser EPI Design Engineer (Optoelectronics)

What you will do

• Coordinate with device designers to develop epitaxial growth designs and recipes meeting output power, drive voltage, beam, wavelength, high-speed, and reliability requirements.
• Model layer thicknesses, compositions, doping profiles, active regions, and growth conditions against optical and electrical outputs.
• Translate EPI designs into growth recipes and coordinate internal growers or external vendors.
• Review calibration and EPI characterization data from growth campaigns and refine designs or provide grower feedback.
• Work with device design, wafer process integration, and NPI teams to launch process runs and analyze wafer processing, testing, and reliability data.
• Coordinate EPI analyses including SIMS, TEM, and EDX, and generate intellectual property for novel device or EPI designs.

Requirements

• PhD in optoelectronics or another relevant major with industry experience.
• Hands-on MBE or MOCVD growth experience with III/V semiconductor materials; GaAs-based VCSEL experience is preferred.
• Experience with semiconductor wafer analysis, including photoluminescence, reflectance spectra, EPI defect and haze scans, XRD, SIMS, and ECV profiling.
• Knowledge of semiconductor device physics, laser diode testing, and wafer process technology.
• Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, JMP, or Minitab, and data processing with Python or Matlab.
• Ability to work cross-functionally as both a team leader and contributor.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
